Sharing the joys of Christmas with Pakistani prisoners

Doulos International Pakistan, a Christian group working to empower the Christians in Pakistan, recently organized a special Christmas program for prisoners in Toba Tek Singh District Jail in Pakistan, reports Ashfaq Fateh, special to ASSIST News Service.

Naqash Gill, a member of Doulos International Pakistan shared the “Good News” with the prisoners and the urged them to live the “values of love, peace, joy and happiness” when they are released from jail.

“Christmas is a time when one needs to retreat his/her commitment to do good in society,” said Gill. “Pakistan is facing lot of problems and Christians have to contribute positively in its due role.”

Saleem Raza, former councilor prayed for the prisoners during the gathering and also for “peace and prosperity in Pakistan.”

He also hailed the role of Doulos International in addresses the issues of neglected people in Pakistani society.

Naveed Ahamd Gondal, Superintendent the District Jail, said, “There must be comprehensive counseling programs for the prisoners” and also acknowledged the efforts of Doulos International Pakistan towards prisoners on the occasion of Christmas.

Shahbaz Masih, a prisoner told ANS, “I am thankful to Doulos International and their team for remembering us, the prisoners, at this time.”

During the unique service, a Christmas cake was cut and carols were song by the prisoners and team after which Doulos International arranged for tea and snacks for the prisoners and the jail administration.
